COMMUNITY GROUPS Expo '99 to showcase GLBT sports groups

Columbus-Team Columbus makes its debut with the Sport and Recreation Expo 1999, on April 15 at the YWCA Downtown Columbus from 7 to 11 pm.

Team Columbus is a resource and networking organization that strives to unify and promote sport and recreational opportunities for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered individuals and friends in the greater Columbus community.

Groups involved in the expo, Hamparian said, "will include Ohio Splash, a masters swimming team, a Scrabble group, the various volleyball leagues and tournaments, bowling leagues, softball leagues, the Stompers, darts groups-the choruses are even involved.”

the Columbus GLBT community. The expo will feature informational booths, vendor areas, and entertainment and athletic activities from member organizations. The goal of Expo 1999 is to increase awareness and participation in Team Columbus.

Team Columbus's long term goal, Hamparian said, is to "send a unified team from Columbus" to the 2002 Gay Games in Sydney, Australia.

"Right now, we're working on a logo and trying to be more visible in the community," he said.

The YWCA is located at 65 South 4th St. For more information on Team Columbus, including cost to rent a booth at the expo, call the Expo Line at 614265-7363, ext. 11.
